The effort to revive a Palmerston-based newspaper is well underway and the project continues to receive positive accolades – and now financial support.
Minto’s Cultural Roundtable announced its support of the Palmerston Observer Redux Edition on June 4 with a donation of $250. Operating as a committee of Minto Council, the group supports cultural development and implements projects and tasks related to Minto’s Cultural Plan.
The Palmerston Observer initiative will see the one-time printing of a traditional broadsheet newspaper coinciding with Palmerston’s Homecoming and 150th anniversary celebrations this August. Single copy sales along with donations and sponsorships are earmarked to cover production and printing costs of the paper, which is being created independently by a team of volunteers as a non-profit venture.
Any surplus funds are to be donated to the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum.
Thanks to the support of the Minto Cultural Roundtable and the Palmerston Homecoming Committee, Palmerston will see its own community newspaper in circulation once again as current and past residents gather to celebrate the town they have called home.
Individuals and organizations interested in sponsorship or supporting the project in other ways are encouraged to contact us to make arrangements. Further updates on the “Redux” project will be posted here leading up to the Homecoming weekend, August 1-4, 2025.
Palmerston Homecoming Committee members provided an update on event plans at a public open house on May 26. Volunteers are still needed to make the weekend run smoothly- lots of easy roles available so pitch in today!
